Cardiovascular diseases

Older people have a greater risk of cardiovascular diseases due to increased blood pressure and endothelial dysfunction. Endothelial dysfunction — “is a type of non-obstructive coronary artery disease in which there are no heart artery blockages, but the large blood vessels on the heart’s surface constrict (narrow) instead of dilating (opening).” And most of the risk is linked to increased blood pressure, primarily systolic blood pressure — a highly prevalent risk factor.

Paying attention to your cardiovascular health is important to living a long life. Heart and circulatory diseases are major causes of death worldwide, according to World Health Organization

Believe in yourself and start every week with a positive mindset.

About Brendon Burchard

Brendon Burchard remains one of my favorite motivational speakers. He is the world’s leading high-performance coach, a 3-time New York Times bestselling author. Brendon is ranked 39th as one of the most-watched quoted and followed personal development coaches in history. Personally, his message resonates with me, and here I share 8 of his famous quotes that…

These are inspiring lessons from one of Rome’s greatest emperors

Photo by Sharon McCutcheon on Unsplash

Marcus Aurelius is an important figure in Stoicism. His great personal essay, now the Meditations of Aurelius, is the bedrock for the Stoics and has been read and practiced by thousands of people worldwide. He embodied Stoicism, as Prof. Michael Sugrue said, " when old-fashioned writers talked about Roman virtue, what they have in mind is Marcus Aurelius.”

Marcus clearly depicted moral excellence, as he remained the only exception to Lord Acton’s generalization that “Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” In simple words, power corrupts moral virtue, but Marcus didn’t allow power to corrupt his moral virtue…

Stoicism is an excellent philosophy.

In the early part of 2020, when the coronavirus was hovering nearly everywhere, nations worldwide began imposing lockdowns as a measure to combat the spread of the coronavirus.

It was during that period that I started searching for an online Philosophy course to study. I have always yearned to study Philosophy — tracing back to my early senior secondary years. We did study Ancient Greek Civilization and great thinkers such as Socrates, Aristotle, and Plato during those moments. Recently, I learned that these three influential philosophers are considered the dream team of philosophy.

In the process of searching for a…

The mindset you need to find meaning in any dreadful situation.

Photo by Asael Peña on Unsplash

If there is any book I ever regretted not reading in my early 20s is Man’s Search for Meaning by Victor E. Frankl. It is a wonderful book that everyone needs to read at least once in their life. If you haven't read it, here is a gist of the book, but I urge you to read it in its entirety — there are many useful and practical lessons you can learn from the prolific author, Viktor Frankl — a professor of Neurology and Psychiatry.

Man’s Search for Meaning is a powerful piece of writing I have read recently. Viktor…

A Call for content creators to write inspiring stories about the continent of Africa.

Photo by Lina Loos on Unsplash

Africa remains one of the beautiful continents in the world with a unique geography. And there are peculiar features of Africa that much of the world is perhaps unaware of due to the lack of information about those features.

Most news media’s stories about Africa often center around war, political violence, elections flaws, civil unrest, armed conflict, gender-based violence, abject poverty, corruption, etc. Also, these news media tend to write mainly about deplorable places in Africa, show images of underdeveloped areas, and uncompelling stories about the continent. It’s time to uncover the beauty of the continent of Africa.

Strikingly, about…

The Apostle Paul takes inspiration from ancient Greek philosophers to write to the early Christians.

Paul’s background

After Jesus Christ himself, Apostle Paul is unarguably the most influential person in the development of Christianity. Previously, he was called Saul of Tarsus, who prosecuted Christians until his conversion experience on his way to Damascus — he encountered the Holy Spirit. In other words, he felt an overwhelming presence of the Lord, which caused him to be blind morally.

He was a Roman citizen, devoted Hellenistic Jew, and Torah scholar who studied Jewish law under a highly respected Rabbi. …

Women in Stoicism: Practical Paths to Flourishing

Source: Practical Paths to Flourishing

As I stated earlier in one of my articles — Is Stoicism a male-dominated philosophy; Stoicism is not a male-dominated philosophy. It’s a philosophy for all — built on the bedrock of virtue and glued together by mindful discipline and commitment for the common good. In that article, I outlined the role ancient Stoic women have played in Stoicism. Also, I argued that without Zeno of Citium shipwreck or women, perhaps, there would not have been a philosophy called Stoicism today. …
